A Time, a Place, Our Gaze: Re-framing the Subaltern is the exhibition catalogue that accompanies the photography exhibition of the same name. Curated by Kenneth Scott, the exhibition features early-twentieth-century vernacular photographs of black New Brunswickers. First displayed at the Saint John Arts Centre in New Brunswick, Canada in 2024, the exhibition was reinstalled by Slavery North in 2026 at 50 Arrow Gallery in Easthampton, Massachusetts. This catalogue provides vital historical and cultural context about the relevance of photography for black individuals and communities in the Black Diaspora and the centuries-long presence of black populations in New Brunswick, Canada.
